I just love a good theme. And, of course, I love, love, love to give books on special occasions.
Jump to the Lists For Babies and Toddlers
First, there is gift list for hipster babies. The little accessories will be standouts at any baby shower (Starbucks sippy cup?! Hah!), but the books are what really attracted me to this theme. They are SO cute!
Next, I put together a group of gifts for foodie babies. Toddlers and babies learn by imitating what we do, and parents of young kids spend a LOT of time preparing food and cleaning up. We bought this play kitchen for my daughter’s first Christmas; all three kids (ages 3, 2, and 1) play with it on a daily basis, and it still looks new. The books in this theme are adorable, too, and help parents introduce shapes, colors, tons of vocabulary, and a multicultural perspective on food and family life.

Third, there is a themed set of book gifts and toys for your up-all-night party animals. It includes some lovely books with nocturnal animals—some familiar and some that may be new to you. Little Owl’s Night is on heavy bedtime rotation in my house, but I still prefer Il Sung Na’s A Book of Sleep for its gorgeous illustrations. This list also includes a light table, which I hope will be our “big” family gift this year.

All of the gift sets include:
* Books! Because this is a gift guide for babies and toddlers, I was sure to include a number of durable board books on each list.
* One big gift that can be enjoyed for a long time and/or by multiple children.
* A few gifts in a medium price range and a few smaller gifts that could be stocking stuffers at Christmas time (if you observe) or would be nice accompanying a book for a thoughtful gift that is not too extravagant.
* Items that are available on Amazon. As a work-at-home mom, myself, I know how precious your time is and how challenging it can be to hit up a department store.
